30milesOUT.com- Sailfin Gafftop Catfish Save The Day with no Redfish on the Flats

On this episode i (ty southerland) and Chicago Steve hit the Texas mid coast flats with the intent to sight cast redfish. With a high tide, wind and muddy water it was not in the cards. So Steve and I changed plans. Steve was in his Malibu xfactor and I was in my wilderness system tarpon 16. We left the flats and headed toward deeper channels. I managed to catch several sand trout on A small #6 salt water fly fishing hook. We cut the sand trout up into cut bait and started working the deeper channel. Steve caught his first sand shark and sting ray out of his new kayak. Then the attack of the sail fin gafftop began. It was one after another. We were looking for other species but a bent rod is a bent rod! With the wind At our backs our umbrellas took us straight back to the boat landing. Another good trip with a good bud.
gear used that day- okuma reels, allstar rods, carolina rig bottom fishing, slip corks, live and cut bait...
